You can only report new employment within 10 days of the employment start date. If you fail to report within 10 days or cannot access the SEVP OPT Portal, you can use the OPT Employer update request at the international student portal. ISS will then manually update your SEVIS record with the employment information.
You may lose your immigration status, become ineligible to change your status to other employment-based immigration categories, such as H-1B status, or be denied visa applications in the future for failing to abide by the OPT rule 90 days.
You are required to report new employment or changes to employment within 10 days in your SEVP Portal of the change to maintain F-1 status reporting requirements.
If Your OPT is “Denied” You will not be allowed to appeal a negative decision to a higher authority. However, you may submit a motion to reopen or a motion to reconsider (form I-290B) with the office that made the unfavorable decision. (This process usually requires the help of an immigration attorney. )

All OPT employment is required to be related to the student's degree program. If a student fails to report OPT employment information, the student could be considered in violation of F-1 immigration status by the Department of Homeland Security.

Applying during COVID-19 The regulations state that to be eligible to apply for OPT, you must have valid F-1 status, which is only possible if you are physically in the U.S. Although we normally advise that you apply only from within the U.S., this may not be possible given the current pandemic.
You can apply for OPT up to 90 days before and up to 60 days after your expected program completion date. In addition, USCIS must receive your application within 30 days of when BIO recommends your I-20 for OPT. You must be physically present in the United States at the time USCIS receives your OPT application.
Travel While OPT or OPT STEM Extension is Pending Travel during the OPT application process is allowed, but not recommended as it poses certain risks.
