Agencies are required to complete investigations within the earlier of 180 days after the filing of the last complaint or 360 days after the filing of the original complaint.

The investigator will engage in a conciliation process with you and the other parties to provide an opportunity for voluntary resolution of the complaint. HUD may resolve the investigation through a document called a Conciliation Agreement.
If HUD has determined that your State or local agency has the same fair housing powers as HUD, HUD will refer your complaint to that agency for investigation and notify you of the referral. That agency must begin work on your complaint within 30 days or HUD may take it back.
