This low wall that blocks non-lawyers from entering is called the “Bar.” This makes sense since it literally bars non-lawyers from entering. Lawyers are often required to show their law license, also called a bar card, to cross to the other side if the judge doesn't know them personally.
If you do not remember your bar number, please use the State Bar's attorney search feature to locate bar number. Search for your name to view your public profile which will include your bar number. Note: Your public profile will also state your admit date.
It is also a required item for obtaining a California Motor Carrier Permit (MCP). The state of California processes your CA Number order within 1-5 business days.
Results are released about 12-14 weeks after the February exam and 16-18 weeks after the July exam.
All applicants for admission to practice law in California must receive a passing score on the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination and pass the California Bar Examination.
Average Time to Process an Application Most investigations take approximately 45 to 50 days. The license can average about 75 days for a Person-to-Person transfer, and 90 days for an Original.
