To obtain a marriage license, you and your future spouse must appear together in-person at one of our office locations. You will need to complete the application form and present valid identification. Acceptable forms of I.D. must provide photo and age verification.
California marriage licenses are only valid for 90 days, so you must obtain your marriage license within the 90 days immediately prior to your wedding date. No blood test is required. There is no waiting period. The clerk will give you your license immediately.
The officiant is responsible for returning the signed license to the county office within 10 days after the marriage. That can be walk-in, mail, or carrier pigeon (assuming the county accepts pigeons.) You can return it yourselves if you want. The county will tell you how to do it.

The participating parties must be living together as spouses at the time they apply for the marriage license, and must sign an affidavit on the license attesting to those facts.
