An affidavit of support is a document that is sent in by a U.S. citizen or LPR sponsor who is willing and able to financially support you while you are in the United States. When your income alone is not enough to support you in your temporary visa stay, someone else can financially support you.
A financial sponsor, including a petitioner, must be at least 18 years old and either a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident (LPR). The sponsor must also have a domicile (residence) in the United States.
The Consular Officer may request that Form I-134 , Declaration of Financial Support, be submitted by the visa applicant, the petitioning U.S. citizen fiancé(e), or a sponsor in the United States.
