If you are using the income of people in your household or dependents to qualify, a separate Form I-864A for each person whose income you will use. However, an intending immigrant whose income is being used must complete Form I-864A only if their spouse and/or children are immigrating with them.

By signing Form I-864, the petitioner (including any joint sponsor(s)) is agreeing to use their resources, if necessary, to financially support the beneficiary and any dependent(s).

Each family member with a separate visa petition must submit a signed Form I-864 with supporting documents from the petitioner/sponsor and Form I-864As with supporting documents from the joint sponsor(s) if applicable.

A joint sponsor is an individual that will sign a separate Affidavit of Support binding them to the same financial responsibilities described above as the primary sponsor, the individual petitioning for their family member. The primary sponsor and the joint sponsor will both be equally liable.

If you have a joint sponsor, they must also complete Form I-864. If you are using the income of other household members to qualify, then each household member who is accepting legal responsibility for supporting your relative must complete a separate Form I-864A, Contract Between Sponsor and Household Member.

Income and assets of the joint sponsor are taken into account independently from those of the primary sponsor. The I-864A entails a household member contributing to the primary sponsor's income and assets, whereas the joint sponsor is a different person who provides additional financial support.
