18 U.S.C. Sec. 1029 is a United States federal statute that defines the term “telecommunications instrument”. This term is used to refer to any device which is capable of sending or receiving electronic communication, including any type of computer, telephone, modem, mobile phone, pager, personal digital assistant (PDA), and any other similar device. This definition also applies to any equipment, part, or component used in the assembly of such devices. The types of telecommunications instrument that are covered by 18 U.S.C. Sec. 1029 include analog and digital phones, landlines, cell phones, VoIP (voice over internet protocol) phones, satellite phones, and any other device used to communicate electronically.
