FAQ

To register a vehicle in Massachusetts, bring proof of insurance, the vehicle title, an odometer disclosure statement, and payment for your registration fees to your local Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) office. All vehicles registered in Massachusetts must pass a yearly vehicle inspection.

Per MGL Chapter 90, Section 2, a resident of Massachusetts, or another state or country, who does not have a driver's license, a Massachusetts ID, or a Social Security Number, will be required to provide identification to obtain a registration.

The Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) must affirm insurance coverage prior to issuing or renewing a registration. This affirmation is done electronically via a direct interface to the RMV, or manually via a company- specific insurance stamp.

A plate can also be reassigned from a leasing company to an individual, or from one leasing company to another. A reassignment can only be done for a newly purchased or leased vehicle, and an RMV-1 form must be used. A plate can only be reassigned when a lease is involved. Please see reverse side for instructions.

Advantages of leasing include lower monthly payments, no long-term commitments, and minimal maintenance costs. Disadvantages include never owning the car, charges for damage or exceeding mileage limits, and restrictive terms and conditions.

Even though the vehicle may no longer be drivable, you are still contractually obligated to fulfill the terms of your lease. This means that, in most cases, you are still responsible for making any remaining lease payments unless your insurance or gap coverage addresses the outstanding balance.

Negotiate your best lease payment You can simply take the best offer and proceed to the next step. However, if you want to shave off every nickel you can from your lease payment, you'll have to shop for your deal, just as you would if you were buying a car. This is where the multiple quotes come into play.
