Washington Extreme Risk Protection Orders (RPO) are a type of court order issued in Washington State that temporarily restricts a person's access to firearms if they are determined to be a threat of personal harm to themselves or others. They are part of Washington State's firearm safety legislation, and can be requested by family members, household members, and law enforcement officers. There are two types of Eros in Washington: Temporary Eros, which last up to 14 days, and Extended Eros, which can last up to one year. Both types of Eros require the respondent to surrender firearms and ammunition in their possession, and temporary Eros also prohibit the purchase of new firearms or ammunition. Eros can be renewed if the court finds there is sufficient cause.
