A witness subpoenaed to attend in a civil case is dismissed and excused from further attendance as soon as the witness has given testimony in chief and has been cross-examined thereon, unless either party moves in open court that the witness remain in attendance and the court so orders.

A person commanded to produce documents, electronically stored information, or tangible things, or to permit the inspection of premises need not appear in person at the place of production or inspection unless also commanded to appear for a deposition, hearing or trial.

Witness fees are $40.00 per day plus transportation reimbursement.

In Washington, the issuing party of a deposition subpoena must give the non-party deponent reasonable notice in writing at least five business days before the deposition. Failure to give timely notice may result in sanctions in the deponent's favor, but it is not grounds for quashing the subpoena.
