The Washington Waiver of Preliminary Examination (WWE) is a pre-trial agreement between prosecution and defense in criminal proceedings. It allows the defendant to waive his or her right to a preliminary hearing in exchange for certain concessions from the prosecution. The agreement typically includes a plea of guilty or no contest to at least one charge in the criminal complaint, and the dismissal of other charges before trial. There are two types of Washington Waiver of Preliminary Examination. The first is a “straight WWE”, which is an agreement between the defense and prosecution to waive the preliminary hearing and proceed directly to trial. The second is a “stipulated WWE”, which is an agreement that stipulates certain conditions for the waiver, such as a guilty plea or some form of agreement between the parties.
