Soliciting Bribe by Witness (18 U.S.C. Sec.201(b)(4)) is a federal offense in the United States. It occurs when a witness who is testifying or about to testify in any official proceedings, including judicial, legislative, or administrative proceedings, corruptly solicits or demands anything of value in exchange for their testimony. This includes asking for money, gifts, or any other form of compensation. This crime also applies to people who offer to give a witness anything of value in exchange for their testimony. There are two main types of Soliciting Bribe by Witness (18 U.S.C. Sec.201(b)(4)) offenses: offering or receiving a bribe, and threatening a witness. Both of these offenses are punishable by a fine and/or imprisonment for up to five years.
