Rhode Island Pro HAC Vice — Client Certification is a process by which an attorney from outside Rhode Island can gain permission to represent a client in a case before Rhode Island state courts without having to be admitted to the Rhode Island Bar. In order to be eligible for Pro HAC Vice certification in Rhode Island, the attorney must be admitted to practice law in another state, as well as in good standing with the bar in that state. There are two types of Pro HAC Vice Client Certification available in Rhode Island: Temporary Pro HAC Vice Client Certification and Standard Pro HAC Vice Client Certification. The Temporary Pro HAC Vice Client Certification is for attorneys who are seeking to represent a client in a limited capacity, such as a single hearing or a single transaction. The Standard Pro HAC Vice Client Certification is for attorneys who are seeking to represent a client in a more extensive capacity, such as multiple hearings or ongoing representation of a client.
