Rhode Island In-House Counsel Registration is a program that enables in-house counsel to register with the Rhode Island Supreme Court and comply with the state's Rules of Professional Conduct. This registration allows in-house counsel to provide legal advice to their employer in Rhode Island without having to be admitted to the Rhode Island Bar. There are two types of Rhode Island In-House Counsel Registration: full registration and limited registration. Full registration is available to in-house counsel who have been admitted to the bar of any other state or territory of the U.S. and who are in good standing in that jurisdiction. Limited registration is available to in-house counsel who do not meet the requirements for full registration but who are in good standing in their home jurisdiction. Limited registrants are limited in the legal advice they can provide to their employer, and are not eligible to appear in Rhode Island courts.
