Rhode Island Registration of a Credit Bureau is a process by which credit bureaus are registered in Rhode Island to legally operate within the state. Credit bureaus are responsible for collecting, maintaining, and reporting consumer credit information to businesses and lenders. The Rhode Island Office of the Attorney General is responsible for the registration of all credit bureaus operating in Rhode Island. There are three types of Rhode Island Registration of a Credit Bureau: Full Registration, Limited Registration, and Temporary Registration. Full Registration requires the submission of a completed application, proof of surety bond, and payment of the registration fee. Limited Registration is available to credit bureaus that are already registered in another state and have met all applicable requirements in that state. Temporary Registration is available for credit bureaus that are in the process of completing the full registration process. All credit bureaus must comply with the laws and regulations of the state of Rhode Island and must maintain certain consumer protections.
