A Pennsylvania Writ of Execution (Money Judgments) is a court order issued by a Pennsylvania court to a sheriff or other law enforcement official to collect money owed on a civil judgment. There are two types of Pennsylvania Writ of Execution (Money Judgments): levies and garnishments. A levy is a seizure of the debtor's property or assets, such as real estate, bank accounts, vehicles, and other personal property. A garnishment is a court order that directs a third party, such as an employer or bank, to pay money owed to the debtor to the plaintiff in order to satisfy the judgment. Both levies and garnishments will require the sheriff or other law enforcement official to serve the Writ of Execution on the debtor or third party.
