New York Appearance of Counsel is a legal procedure in the State of New York that allows attorneys to appear in court on behalf of their clients without the client's physical presence. This is most commonly used in civil matters and is an alternative to actual court appearances. There are two types of New York Appearance of Counsel: General Appearance of Counsel and Limited Appearance of Counsel. General Appearance of Counsel allows an attorney to enter into a settlement or agreement on behalf of a client with the consent of all parties involved. Limited Appearance of Counsel allows an attorney to appear in court for limited purposes, such as submitting pleadings or motions. In either case, the attorney must be authorized to represent the client by either an attorney-client agreement or a court order.
