A New York Abstract of Judgment is a written record of a court judgment that has been filed in the county clerk's office. It is typically used to establish a lien against property, which can be used to collect debts owed. A New York Abstract of Judgment can also be used to collect debts from multiple sources, such as wages and bank accounts, and to prevent a debtor from transferring or encumbering property without first paying the debts. There are two types of New York Abstract of Judgment: "Attached" and "Detached." An Attached Abstract of Judgment includes the original court judgment and the lien itself. A Detached Abstract of Judgment does not include the original court judgment, but only the lien.
