New York Vehicle Registration — Title Application is the form that needs to be completed and submitted to the New York Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in order to register a vehicle and obtain a title. The application requires basic information about the vehicle and applicant, including the vehicle's make, model, and year; the vehicle identification number (VIN); the applicant's name, address, and date of birth; and a valid form of payment for the applicable fees. There are three types of New York Vehicle Registration — Title Application forms: (1) Form MV-82, which is used to register a new or used vehicle that has not been previously registered in New York State; (2) Form MV-82.1, which is used to transfer registration and title from another state or country; and (3) Form MV-51, which is used to register a vehicle that already has a New York State title.
