New York Information and Certification for Van pool Plates is a program that allows eligible New York drivers to register and obtain plates for their van pool vehicles. The plates provide drivers with a discounted registration fee for vehicles used in a van pool and allow them to be identified as a van pool vehicle. There are three types of van pool plates available: Van pool Commuter Vehicle (CV) plates, Van pool General Use Vehicle (VGA) plates, and Van pool Special Use Vehicle (VS) plates. CV plates are available to vehicles used exclusively for commuting to and from work by at least four individuals. VGA plates are available to vehicles used exclusively for commuting to and from work by at least four individuals, as well as for general use, such as local shopping trips. VS plates are available to vehicles used exclusively for commuting to and from work by at least four individuals, as well as for special use, such as long distance trips. All applications for New York Van pool Plates must be accompanied by a certificate of van pool eligibility, which must be completed by the owner of the vehicle and the employer.
