New York Additional Notice of Consumer Credit Action — NYC Civil Court is a notice issued to a debtor when a creditor begins a civil lawsuit against the debtor in New York City. The notice informs the debtor of the lawsuit, the date of the court appearance, the name of the court, the action being taken, and the amount of money the creditor is seeking. Depending on the action being taken, there are two types of notices: Summons and Complaint, and Notice of Petition. The Summons and Complaint informs the debtor of a lawsuit filed by the creditor in which they are requesting a monetary judgment. The Notice of Petition is sent when the creditor is seeking an order from the court, such as a wage garnishment or a lien on property. Both notices include information about the case, such as the case number, the court address, the hearing date, and the name of the plaintiff and defendant.
