The New Jersey Respondents Answer to Dependency Claim Petition is a document filed by the Respondent (the person being sued for the relief sought in the Petition) in a dependency action. The Answer is a legal document which serves as a response to the Petition. It is the Respondent's opportunity to either accept or deny the allegations stated in the Petition, as well as to raise any defenses or objections to the relief sought. The Answer must be filed within 20 days of the Petition being served. There are two types of New Jersey Respondents Answer to Dependency Claim Petition: Admit/Deny Answer and Limited Answer. An Admit/Deny Answer is an Answer that either admits or denies each allegation in the Petition. The Respondent must check the appropriate box next to each allegation in the Petition and sign and date the Answer. A Limited Answer is an Answer that does not specifically admit or deny each allegation in the Petition. Instead, the Respondent is allowed to object to the relief sought without specifically admitting or denying the allegations in the Petition. The Respondent must explain the basis for his/her objections in the Answer, and sign and date the Answer.
