Description

Amendment Additional Party

Montana Amendment Additional Party (MAP) is an alternative party system that allows voters to choose from three or more party options in elections. MAP was approved by Montana lawmakers in 2020, and it will be implemented in the 2022 elections. There are two types of MAP: the Primary MAP and the General MAP. The Primary MAP allows voters to choose from three or more party options in the primary elections and the General MAP allows the same three or more party options in the general elections. Both types of MAP will be used to elect statewide and federal-level officeholders in Montana. The parties included in the MAP are the Democratic, Republican, Libertarian, Green, and Constitution parties. This amendment is intended to increase voter choice and foster competition in Montana elections.
