Minnesota Power of Attorney is a legal document that allows a principal (the person granting the power) to appoint an agent (the person given the power) to act on his or her behalf. The agent can make decisions in regard to financial matters, real estate transactions and medical decisions. There are two types of Minnesota Power of Attorney: General Power of Attorney and Durable Power of Attorney. With General Power of Attorney, the agent has the authority to make decisions on behalf of the principal only while the principal is still competent. Durable Power of Attorney remains effective even if the principal becomes incapacitated, allowing the agent to act on behalf of the principal. In both cases, the principal can revoke the power at any time.
