The Kentucky 2255 Packet is a set of court forms used to request a reduction in a prisoner's sentence or for release from prison. The packet is used to file for post-conviction relief under Kentucky Rule of Criminal Procedure 11.42. It contains the motion for relief, an affidavit, a certificate of service, and a copy of the accused’s judgment and sentence. There are two types of Kentucky 2255 Packets — the standard packet and the non-standard packet. The standard packet is used when a prisoner is seeking to have their sentence reduced or vacated due to a legal error, while the non-standard packet is used for more complex claims or situations, such as ineffective assistance of counsel. The packet must be filled out with accurate and up-to-date information in order to be considered by the court.
