Indiana Summons, Certificate of Service is a document issued by a court of law that notifies an individual that a lawsuit has been initiated against them. The Summons will typically include the name of the court, the case number, the names of the plaintiff and defendant, and the date and time the summons was issued. A Certificate of Service is a document that verifies that the summons was properly delivered to the defendant. There are two types of Indiana Summons, Certificate of Service: Personal Service Summons and Summons by Publication. Personal Service Summons requires the court to deliver the summons to the defendant in person. Summons by Publication is when the court publishes the summons in a local newspaper, giving the defendant notice of the lawsuit.
