Illinois Appearance, Pro Se, is a legal process where a person appears in court without an attorney. The person is representing themselves in proceedings. There are two types of Illinois Appearance, Pro Se: in Form Paupers (IFP) and Voluntary Appearance. In Form Paupers is a legal process where a person appears in court without the ability to pay for an attorney. A person in this situation must provide documents that prove they cannot afford an attorney. Voluntary Appearance is when a person appears in court without an attorney, but has the means to pay for an attorney. In either case, the person is responsible for preparing their own legal documents and representing themselves in court.
