The Hawaii Trustee — Abandonment of Property (Notice) is a document used when a tenant has abandoned their property in a rental unit and the landlord is attempting to take possession of the abandoned property. The Notice will include the tenant's name, address, a description of the property, and the landlord's contact information. It will also provide instructions for the tenant on how to reclaim the property, including the amount of money the landlord is entitled to receive. It must be personally served on the tenant or posted at the rental unit. There are two types of Abandonment of Property Notice — a 30-day notice and a 14-day notice. The 30-day notice must be served if the tenant has vacated the rental unit for 30 days or more. The 14-day notice must be served if the tenant has vacated the rental unit for 14 days or less.
