Alaska Self-Insurance, Renewal of Certificate of Self-Insurance is a program offered by the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development that allows employers to self-insure their employees for Workers' Compensation coverage. The program is available to employers who meet certain criteria, including having at least five employees, having a minimum net worth of $50,000, and having a record of responsible management of the business. The program requires employers to pay an initial fee for their self-insured coverage, as well as an annual renewal fee. There are two types of Alaska Self-Insurance, Renewal of Certificate of Self-Insurance: Certificate of Self-Insurance and Group Self-Insurance. Certificate of Self-Insurance is available to employers with fewer than 25 employees, while Group Self-Insurance is available to employers with more than 25 employees. Both programs require employers to meet certain criteria and to pay an initial fee and an annual renewal fee.
