Caregiver difficulties scale (P-CDS) It includes 25 items and is divided into four domains: concern for the child (8 items), impact on self (7 items), support for care- giving (5 items), and social and economic strain (5 items).
Zarit Caregiver Burden Scale (ZCBS) is a self-report questionnaire, that consists of 22 items on 0-4 Likert-type scale (from 0 that is “never” to 4 that is “almost always”), to determine the effect of caregiving on the life of the individual concerned 14.
Scoring is 2 points for each 'yes', 1 point for each 'sometimes', and 0 for each 'no' response. Scoring ranges from 26 to 0; a higher score indicates a higher level of caregiver strain (Travis et al., 2003; Thornton & Travis, 2003).
Description of the parent/caregiver involvement scale (P/CIS) The P/CIS measures parenting behaviors within the two major domains of reciprocity and control.
The measure contains five dimensions: personal and social restrictions, physical and emotional health, economic costs, value investment in caregiving, and the perception of the care recipient as provocateur. Items are scored on a 4-point scale (strongly agree, agree, disagree, strongly disagree).
Gerontologic health scientific literature identifies a number of scales to measure caregiver burden. The Zarit Scale of Caregiver Burden or the Zarit Burden Interview is the most widely used instrument. Originally designed and tested in 1980 containing 29 items, it was reduced to 22 questions.
SCORING KEY: o to 20 = little or no burden; 21 to 40 = mild to moderate burden; 41 to 60 = moderate to severe burden; 61 to 88 = severe burden. FIGURE 4. Caregiver Burden Scale.
