In the vast majority of states, a person does not need a permit simply to own a gun. A person must be 18 or 21 years old to buy a gun. Generally, laws forbidding the carrying of handguns include limited exceptions.
Utah is a “Shall Issue” state which means as long as you meet the minimum requirements, you will receive the permit. Utah law requires BCI to issue or deny a permit within 60 days. The 60-day period begins when BCI receives the application and processes the payment.
Utah does not require a permit to carry a concealed or open firearm. As of anyone over the age of 21 resident or nonresident may concealed or open carry permitless.
The entire process takes about 60 days from the time your correct application was first received at the FFLC.
