Additionally, LTC holders have a one-year grace period after the expiration date to renew their licenses. However, individuals must start over as new applicants if not renewed within one year after expiration.
How long is the Texas LTC valid? Initial licenses are valid for four years. Renewal licenses are valid for five years.
To renew your Texas LTC you will not need to take a class or submit fingerprints again. You simply renew online on the DPS website by logging in as a “returning user”. You can renew up to 6 months early, if you try any earlier the renewal link won't be there when you log in.
You must attend a four to six hour in-person or online classroom training and pass a written examination with a certified instructor. Classroom training will cover: Laws related to weapons and the use of deadly force.

What Happens if Your Texas LTC Expires? If your Texas LTC expires, you have one year to renew it. After one year, you must start the application process over again as a new applicant, including taking the required training course.
