Texas Tech University requires enrolled first-year students to live in the university residence halls. Additional information regarding the First Year On-Campus Residency Requirement may be found in OP 30.25.
Requesting a roommate First-year students have the option to request roommates when submitting their application. Roommate requests must be mutual – both students must request and accept one another in order to be assigned.
All incoming first-year freshmen students must live on campus and are required to sign their housing contracts by June 1 before the upcoming academic year. Students who seek an exception to the Freshman Residency Requirement should request a waiver through the StarRez Portal.
You may consider opting to have a roommate assigned to you, which is an easy way to meet someone new as you start your UVA journey! If you do want to request a roommate, preferences must be mutual and designated on your housing application during the roommate preference phase of the application process.
The Freshman Residency Requirement applies to first-year students admitted through Undergraduate Admissions. Students admitted through distance learning/UA Online aren't subject to the freshman residency requirement.
Can I still request roommates? If you have both been offered to the same building and room type, then you can mutually request one another on the housing application, and we should be able to assign you to the same room in August.
All first-year students are required to live on campus, are guaranteed housing, and must have a dining plan. However, students must complete their housing/dining contract to be assigned a room.
Roommates should be in the same class standing category (sophomores with sophomores, juniors/seniors with other upperclassmen and graduate students with other grads) and of the same gender. When selecting an assignment, who can I pull in to be a roommate? You can only pull in (assign) accepted roommates (see above).
If you do not have a specific person in mind, you can conduct an online search for potential roommates and be presented with possible matches based on the information provided in your Profile. You will be able to contact potential roommates and update your application to request them.
