Housing Services has the ability to assign students of different genders to the same room, in gender inclusive housing, upon request. Students interested in gender inclusive housing should indicate their interest within the housing application.

If a student is interested in rooming with a friend, both students must indicate each other as roommate preferences on the HFS Contract using their Penn State Access Account (i.e. abc123). Verify that the correct student has been chosen before the preference modification deadline indicated on the HFS Contract.

If you would like to be considered for a housing offer for the 2021-22 academic year, you must submit your application by June 8, 2021. Offers are not issued on a first come, first served basis. Offers will be made to those who submit their application by the deadline, based on the below prioritization.

UCLA does offer single dorm rooms for freshmen, but they are limited in availability and tend to be in high demand. There are single rooms in both on-campus residential halls and apartments.

Can I request a roommate or will UCLA Housing choose one for me? All students wanting to be roommates should update their application to reflect the requested roommate's information. We will take mutual roommate requests into consideration when making assignments.

To the degree possible, roommate requests are considered along with other preferences indicated on your application.

You may request one roommate, or you may apply without a roommate and the Housing Occupancy Office will use your Lifestyle Profile and College House preferences to match you with a roommate or suitemates. If you request a roommate: Make sure you list the same College House preferences in the same order.

Students interested in living on campus can request housing in October but do not have to decide until November when invitations are released to select a housing option. Both processes continue through the semester and there are many options available on and off campus.

A student may indicate another student as a roommate request. Roommate requests must be mutual, and the Housing Assignment Office will assign students together within the established policies for roommate requests. To indicate a roommate request, enter the student's Penn State Access ID (example, abc1234).
