Eligible Veterans can exempt $50,000 of the assessed value of their primary residential home from property taxes. Who is eligible for the Ohio Disabled Veteran Homestead Property Tax Relief?
You may qualify for a lower tax on your home if you: Are at least 65 years old OR. Own and occupy your home as your primary residence as of January 1st of the year in which the exemption is being sought. Meet the income guidelines certified by the Ohio Department of Taxation Commissioner:
Disabled Veterans Enhanced Homestead Exemption protects the first $52,300 of your home's value from taxation. For example, if your home is worth $100,000, you will be taxed as if the home were worth $47,700.
Homeowners over the age of 65: Must not have a total household income over $38,600/year if applying in 2024, or $40,000 if applying in 2025, which includes the Ohio adjusted gross income of the owner and the owner's spouse. Must be age 65 by December 31 of the calendar year for which the exemption is sought.
If you disagree with the decision of the Board of Revision, you may file an appeal with the Ohio Board of Tax Appeals using Form DTE 4 (available online or at the Auditor's Office) within 30 days after the Board of Revision's decision notice is mailed.
Real estate property taxes are billed twice a year, with payment due in mid-February and mid-July. Mobile home taxes are billed twice a year, as well, with payment due March 1st and July 31st. The Treasurer's Office wants to make paying taxes as simple as possible for Cuyahoga County taxpayers.
Collect Evidence: Gather evidence that supports your argument that the property's value is inflated. This could include data relating to recent property sales issues, the condition of your property, or other economic factors impacting property values.
