AUTEC Andros Island, Bahamas (ASD) and AUTEC West Palm Beach, Florida (WPB) are United States Navy facilities. A small detachment of US Navy personnel are stationed at these facilities, with primary responsibility for protection of military interests.
AUTEC incorporates an Acoustic Range, a Weapons Range, and a Fleet Operational Readiness Accuracy Check Site situated in an oceanic basin 15 nautical miles (17 miles/28 kilometers) wide, 100 nautical miles (115 miles/185 kilometers) long, and a depth of 6,000 feet (1,800 meters).
These in-air systems cover the AUTEC Weapons Range up to a distance of 500 nautical miles (930 km) from Site 1 and a height of 70,000 feet (21,000 m). Surveillance radars operate to support air and surface safety.
