If a student is absent for 10% or more of enrolled school days, this is considered chronic absence. This includes excused and unexcused absences, as well as out-of-school suspensions. In a typical school year, chronic absence would be missing 18 days, which is approximately two days per month.
HOMEWORK Hillsborough County policy requires homework be assigned to all students on a regular basis. The homework assignment is approximately 30 minutes in length for students in grades K, 1, 2 and 3 and approximately 45 minutes in grades 4 and 5 however, times may vary by teacher.
A homework policy is a set of guidelines, rules, and principles established by educational institutions to govern the assigning, completion, and evaluation of homework assignments. This policy outlines the expectations and responsibilities of students, teachers, and parents regarding homework.
Many districts follow the guideline of 10 minutes per grade level. This is a good rule of thumb and can be modified for specific students or subjects that need more or less time for assignments. This can also be helpful to gauge if you are providing too much (or too little) homework.
