FAQ

Terminations; transfers. When a salesperson terminates activity on behalf of a broker, the salesperson's license shall be ineffective. Within ten days of the termination the broker shall notify the commissioner in the form prescribed by the commissioner.

To Move from Active status to Inactive status, licensees must submit the following: Step 1: Complete the Inactivation Application. Step 2: Review the Inactivation Application Submission Instructions. Step 3: Submit the Inactivation Application via Document Submission in the Licensee Portal.

An inactive real estate license, on the other hand, puts your career on hold. TREC will declare your license inactive if you don't complete your required license renewal courses and/or fail to renew your license on time. Your license will also become inactive if you do not have a sponsoring broker.

With involuntary inactive status, you will be given no more than two years to complete the requirements to achieve active or voluntary inactive status. After that period of time, the license automatically expires.

No persons shall advertise or represent themselves to be real estate brokers or real estate salespersons unless licensed as provided in this section.

If your license is currently inactive or expired, you have five years from the date of inactivity or expiration to reactivate your license without taking the licensing examinations. Your completed application for reactivation must be received in our office before your five year deadline.

There are three routes you can take to deactivate your real estate license. The first is asking your real estate broker to remove you from their license, the second is to do it yourself online, and the third requires you to send a paper application to your real estate commission.

Mutual Agreement: The most straightforward path to termination is when both parties agree to end the agreement. This often occurs when both the seller and broker recognize that their objectives are not being met, or circumstances have changed.

The easiest way out is to sit down with the real estate brokerage the realtor works for and discuss breaking the agreement. Many reputable brokerages who wish to keep a favorable relationship with your business will agree to peaceful contract termination.

Simply send them a letter or email stating that you are no longer working with them effective immediately. You are not obligated to work with any realtor you don't like. Cut contact after sending the message and contact the new realtor.
