You have the right to appeal an overpayment determination. You must submit your appeal in writing within 30 days of the mailing date on the Notice of Overpayment (DE 1444). You can still submit an appeal after the 30-day deadline, but you must provide the reasons why you missed the appeal deadline.

Georgia requires employers to send a Separation Notice to EVERY exiting employee, regardless of whether the separation was voluntary or involuntary. The Separation Notice informs the Department of Labor whether the employee qualifies for unemployment benefits.

Your social security number, as a claim cannot be filed without a social security number. Valid/unexpired government-issued picture identification. Employer-issued separation notice or letter, if available. Names, addresses, and dates of employment of all employers for the last 18 months.
Waiver Request. An individual shall make a written request for waiver of a determined overpayment within thirty (30) days of the date of the notification that the individual has been overpaid unemployment insurance benefits.
