A partition of a positive integer n, also called an integer partition, is a way of writing n as a sum of positive integers. The number of partitions of n is given by the partition function p(n) Partition (number theory). For example, p(4)=5.
Partition By: This divides the rows or query result set into small partitions. Order By: This arranges the rows in ascending or descending order for the partition window. The default order is ascending. Row or Range: You can further limit the rows in a partition by specifying the start and endpoints.
PARTITION BY is useful when you need to perform separate calculations within each group and analyze the result set in more detail. On the other hand, GROUP BY is more suitable for summarizing data and performing aggregation operations on groups.
On the Select a Partition Function page, under Select partition function, select either New partition function or Existing partition function. If you choose New partition function, enter the name of the function. If you choose Existing partition function, select the name of the function you'd like to use from the list.

MBR (Master Boot Record) and GPT (GUID Partition Table) are the most widely used partition tables. As compared to GPT, MBR is an old standard and has some limitations. In the MBR scheme with 32-bit entries, we can only have a maximum disk size of 2 TB. Furthermore, only four primary partitions are allowed.
