To protect your child: For many students, the Big Test can be very stressful. To improve education for all students: Opting out is an effective way to protest the overuse and misuse of standardized tests, which forces schools to focus on the demands of the tests instead of the needs of students.
There is no “opt out” provision. The expectation in state and federal law that all students must be assessed. The school is legally obligated to present the test to all students. If a student is not in attendance on the day of testing, the school must schedule a make-up session and present the test then.
