Nature and Extent of News Coverage. The more extensive the news coverage, the more likely a change of venue is appropriate. However, when the news coverage is so geographically widespread and pervasive throughout the state, a judge may decide that a change of venue may do no good.
It's very rare for a prosecutor to request a change of venue. I only know of one case and I will describe it below. Changes of venue are generally because it is believed than an impartial jury cannot be impaneled in the current venue. Obviously this is more often a concern for the defense than the prosecution.

It's important to note that judges often have busy schedules, so getting a new date may not be guaranteed unless it's an emergency situation.
