If you own and occupy property in Orange County and the property is your permanent residence as of January 1, applying for a Homestead exemption could reduce the assessed value of your Homestead property by up to $50,000, resulting in a tax savings of approximately $750 annually.
January 1st of each year is the date when permanent residency is determined, by law. Timely filing period for Homestead exemption starts September 19th through March 1 of the following year (by way of example) 2023. The absolute deadline to file a late file (in this example 2023) is September 19, 2023.
The total household income limitation is the same for both exemptions. It is made available by the Florida Department of Revenue annually and subject to change each year. The adjusted income limitation for the 2024 exemptions is $36,614.
