The Stay NJ program offers property tax benefits to eligible homeowners aged 65 and older. It reimburses applicants for 50% of their property tax bills, up to a maximum of $13,000, with a 2024 benefit cap of $6,500.
Once you're approved for a homestead exemption, you typically don't need to reapply on an annual basis. However, you may need to notify the appropriate government agency if you move, sell or rent your house.
If you are under 55 or not otherwise qualified as described below, see the Exemptions section. This exemption is available to a single homeowner age 65 or older, or a couple filing a joint petition, if either or both are age 65 or over.

Obtain the claim form from the County Assessor's office where the property is located. Submit the completed form to the same office. New applications for Homestead Exemption for the current year must be made in person prior to March 1st at the Property Appraiser's office or at select locations during the regular homestead filing period. If you move, you must file a new application for homestead at your new residence.
Elderly persons, regardless of marital status, are personally exempt up to one million dollars ($1,000,000) each. If two owners qualify for the elderly or disabled homestead protection, the aggregate protection on the home increases to two million dollars ($2,000,000).
What is Homestead Exemption? A homestead exemption in Louisiana exempts the first $75,000 of market value on a property owner's primary residence. In St. Charles Parish, the homestead exemption is equivalent to roughly $884 in annual property tax savings.

Senior Longevity Exemption: Section 196.75(2)(b), F.S. Senior citizens 65 or older who meet income eligibility requirements and who have lived in their home at least 25 years now have a 100% property tax exemption providing one's home's just/ market value does not exceed $250,000.
