The personal exemption is suspended from 2018 through 2025, but will be reinstated starting in 2026 if current tax law is not changed by then. For all but three years (2010- 2012) from 1991 to 2017, the exemption phased out for taxpayers with income above a threshold amount.

Before 2018, taxpayers could claim a personal exemption for themselves and each of their dependents. The amount would have been $4,150 for 2018, but the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) set the amount at zero for 2018 through 2025. TCJA increased the standard deduction and child tax credits to replace personal exemptions.

Homestead Tax Credit Requirements While every county has its own cap, the highest increase can be no more than 10%. The list of each county's cap is available on the Maryland State Department of Assessment and Taxation (SDAT) website below. There are no income limits to receive the Homestead Tax Credit.

The personal exemption is $3,200. This exemption is reduced once the taxpayer's federal adjusted gross income exceeds $100,000 ($150,000 if filing Joint, Head of Household, or Qualifying Widow(er) with Dependent Child).

You can claim exemption from withholding only if both the following situations apply: For the prior year, you had a right to a refund of all federal income tax withheld because you had no tax liability. For the current year, you expect a refund of all federal income tax withheld because you expect to have no liability.
