When you relocate abroad or cease to be employed, your EPF account becomes inactive, meaning no further contributions are made. However, the balance in your EPF account continues to earn interest until you either withdraw it or reach retirement age.

The retirement age to withdraw entire EPF amount is 55 years. Although 90% of the EPF corpus can be withdrawn at the age of 54, one year before retirement.

If you stop working before reaching the retirement age, the account will remain operative for three years from the date contributions cease. For example, if your last EPF contribution was made in July 2024, and you stopped working at the age of 40, the account will stay active until July 2027.
