Workplace rules that are ignored or applied unevenly could undermine your business and expose your company to costly lawsuits. Handbook policies are supposed to be your friend, there to help protect your organization from lawsuits, not blow up in your face and make your employer more likely to be sued.

Employee handbooks are not legally binding unless they explicitly state that they are. However, certain statements in the handbook can be interpreted as contractual promises if they are specific enough and imply mutual obligations between employer and employee.
