Under FERS, employees are eligible at age 62 with five years of service, 60 with 20, MRA with 30 or MRA with 10 (but with a reduced benefit).

You can qualify for early retirement at any age with 25 years of service or age 50 with 20 years of service.

Tier 3 and Tier 4 Members In both tiers, members can retire at age 62 with full benefits, though they may retire as early as age 55 with reduced benefits if they have completed at least five years of service.

Your pension is based on your years of credited service and your final average salary (FAS). FAS is the average of the wages you earned during any 36 consecutive months of service when your earnings were highest. This is usually the last three years of employment.

219 (signed on Dec. 31, 2001) created an Early Retirement Incentive program (ERIP) for any Group 1 employee in the State Retirement system. Members eligible for the incentive are those eligible to retire, those at age 55 with 10 years of service or with 20 years of service, and active on the effective date of act.

Retire under FERS at age 62 with 5 years of service, age 60 with 20 years, or at your Minimum Retirement Age (MRA) with 30 years. You can also retire at MRA with 10 years of service, but benefits will be reduced. There are some exceptions to this rule, however. We'll explore those in a moment.

New York Senate Bill 5529 (Prior Session Legislation) Bill Title: Enables public employers to offer an age fifty-five with ten years of service or age fifty with twenty-five years of service temporary retirement incentives for certain public employees.

You will be eligible for a service retirement benefit when you reach age 55 and have five or more years of credited member service. If you are a Tier 3 member, you may retire under Article 14 or Article 15. However, your benefit, in most cases, will be greater under Article 15.
