Beginning with the 2023 filing season, new legislation increased the income limit for the program to $150,000 for Tax Year 2022, benefitting those filing the 2023 PTR-1. The law also eliminated the requirement that an applicant must be a New Jersey resident for 10 consecutive years to be eligible for the program.

Taxes aren't determined by age, so you will never age out of paying taxes. People who are 65 or older at the end of 2024 have to file a return for tax year 2024 (which is due in 2025) if their gross income is $16,550 or higher. If you're married filing jointly and both 65 or older, that amount is $32,300.

Legal or domiciliary New Jersey residence. New Jersey citizenship. Principal or permanent residence in the claimed dwelling. Property ownership.

Eligible applicants can file the 2022 Senior Freeze application (Form PTR-1) online at nj/ treasury/taxation/ptr or by paper, using the form in this booklet. Applications must be filed on or before Octo- ber 31, 2023. Online applications must be filed by p.m., October 31, 2023.

The ANCHOR Benefit and Senior Freeze (Prop- erty Tax Reimbursement) pro grams are separate programs, and separate applications must be filed every year for each program.

Age/Disability You (or your spouse/civil union partner) were: 65 or older as of December 31, 2022; or. Actually receiving federal Social Security disability benefit payments (not benefit payments received on behalf of someone else) on or before December 31, 2022, and on or before December 31, 2023.
