The FY 2012 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), Public Law 112-81, enacted 31 December 2011, authorized the military services to offer early retirement to Service members who have completed at least 15 years of active service. This is a discretionary authority and not an entitlement.

Members who accumulate 20 or more years of qualifying service are eligible for reserve retirement when they reach age 60 or, in some cases, a lesser qualifying age. There are two non-disability retirement plans currently in effect for reserve qualified retirees.

You should submit your application at least 90 days before your expected retirement date (your 60th birthday or your reduced age retirement date). The Application consists of two Department of Defense Forms (DD 108 & DD 2656) and supporting documents.

The revised pensions under OROP will not apply to UK/HKSRA/KCIO pensioners, Pakistan & Burma Army pensioners, reservist pensioners, pensioners in receipt of ex-gratia payments and premature retirement/own request pensioners retired on or after 01.07. 2014 (as provided in para 4 of MoD notification dated 07.11. 2015).
